In 2020, David Harvey offered me the opportunity to choose scores of my music to be published by the recently established TSO House, set up to publish Tasmanian compositions. Very recently, I thought why not a brand-new work for string orchestra to mark the occasion? The result “Brevities”. I set out to make five short, autonomous pieces, linked only by their contrasts, each one varied in tempo and mood from its predecessor. They each approximate two minutes in duration:
