This piece follows the wind band lullaby tradition exemplified in Leslie Bassett's Lullaby for Kirsten of 1985. As in that piece, Brahms' lullaby is quoted. However, in my work it has very much the prime focus - it is Owen's favourite melody! Having listened to it played on so many toys, swings and mobiles, I began to hear a work which traveled through Brahms' lullaby in a gently repetitive manner. This work combines the Brahms melody with the traditional Celtic lullaby, Dream Angus, which my wife had sung to her as a baby and, in turn, now sings to our son.
