In 2002 I wrote a choral work with flutes entitled 'Improvisation on a Poem of Gwen Harwood' and based on Gwen Harwood's poem, Sea Eagle. In this work I have taken the raw material of the opening flute birdcalls to create a new work - again inspired by Gwen Harwood's poem and beautiful Bruny Island on which it is set.

This work was composed for the combined grade 6 band of the Combined Primary Schools Band Program, Southern Tasmania and dedicated to it's conductor, Rob Greenwood.

Instrumentation: Flute, Oboe, Bassoon, 2 Clarinets, Bass Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, 2 Trumpets, Horn in F, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, Timpani (Doubling Cymbal), 4 percussionists.

Percussion: Cymbal, Tam-tam, Bass Drum, Wind Chimes, Glockenspiel
