This work, the first movement of my second Symphony, was transcribed by the composer in June of 2001. As such it pre-dates the first revision of the whole Symphony done in 2003 (let alone the revision of 2013), indeed it influenced some of the decisions made in the revision process. When transcribing this movement my intention was to make an independent work - the piece should be seen as complete in itself. It was also my intention to make the piece specific in terms of scoring to the wind band medium and as such bears little resemblance to the first movement of my Symphony 2 in terms of timbre - and indeed at times to the actual notes.
