Instrumentation: Solo piano
Dire Aphorisms (Apparel Observations) is a set of eight short piano works inspired by the three aphorisms of Willem Pijper (1894-1947). Each one is written about an item of clothing and explores the sentimental and material aspects of it.
I. Soulseek: An exploration of peer-to-peer file sharing programs and 2000s software aesthetics.
II. Metamorphose: A response to the 2022 album by of the same name by the artist Bye2
III. Schwee Schwee: A tribute to the band Xiu Xiu and their 2017 album Forget.
IV. OIOION: What I hear in my head when I read the word “OIOION”.
V. Cool Serval!!!: An exploration of the excitement that precedes a decision many would consider ill-advised.
VI. Falling on my Knees (and Puking): The emotional and physical fallout of the previously mentioned ill-advised decision.
VII. True Love False Noise: an experiment in creating an evolving and hypnotic mass.
