First Light, from Klokwerx, is for two hands on acoustic piano. Allow the bass chords to resonate while you move to the treble with careful use of the damper pedal.
Imagine that time in the morning when the eastern horizon brightens and objects gradually emerge from the chilly, enveloping gloom; it’s frosty and the birds are still in bed. Rug up and do some research: go outside at this time and listen to the colours emerge. Don’t expect to portray sunrise: the dynamics and harmonic developments are more subtle in this earlier timeslot. Most of the piece is atonal: however I believe the very slow tempo will allow you to indulge and enjoy the sounds.
Look for the whole-tone bars, and listen to the more conventional harmonies such as triads and diminished chords.
