This short piano solo was composed for Linda Nicholls, to be performed as part of her proposed recital of my piano works early in 2000 at Smithton, my birth place. The material for it is taken from a piano piece I attempted in my youth, called Looking out to Sea, in which I tried to express my feelings looking towards Bass Strait from Tier Hill in Smithton. Linda’s proposed recital suggested to me an extensive re-working of the early piece to contribute something relevant to the occasion. The change of title also makes clear its local reference.
