After writing the large-scale, programmatic, emotionally effusive, and self-destructing Piano Sonata in 2017 I felt that the next piece would be an emotional counterweight. The lightness, textural transparency, and humor of Haydn was at the forefront of my mind and, perhaps as a result, the structure began to shape itself classically and traditionally, hence this became titled simply, Sonata.
