Composed for Jabra Latham in 2008/2009, each movement is a reflection upon a poem of Philip Larkin, who's poetry was a great fascination in my early years as an artist. In addition the piece is based on a number of my earlier works and sought to draw my compositional development to that time into one 'definitive' work. The work is highly virtuosic, requiring the saxophonist to play across an extremely wide range in the opening movements before rapid quartertone semiquavers and circular breathing in the finale.
