I composed this work for my friends Damien and Rosemary Holloway really as a thank you for their recent lovely performance of my Three Canzonas for Flute and Viola (1974). I also hope it will add to the small repertoire for this combination. It is constructed around three main ideas in a single 10 minute duration. The first idea is slow and ruminating; the second sprightly in character; the third built on a very simple, naive sounding two bar major triad. This third idea returns to conclude the work on a quiet, thoughtful note.
