"Also transcribed for flute, clarinet, and piano, like the string quartet, the trio almost had its first performance in the early '60s by the London Contemporary Music Society Trio. I sent the score to them on Malcolm Williamson's advice, but, for unexplained reasons, it was not performed. In three linked sections it applies 12-tone serial techniques in a much stricter manner than the quartet."
