This musical retelling of Aesop's timeless 'Hare and the Tortoise' encourages young audiences to think about how scenes from the story might be portrayed programmatically with music. They can listen out for the themes of the main characters, assisted by the fact each is portrayed by a soloist: Hare is a flute and Tortoise is a tuba (dress-ups are of course encouraged). The variety of action and opportunity for audience participation will sustain interest whilst the text celebrates Tortoise's perseverance and determination, all the while emphasising the friendship between the two competitors. The perfect addition to a fairy-tale themed concert, 'The Hare and the Tortoise' will both entertain and develop musical listening skills.
This version allows the narrator to read from either the score, a condensed cue stave part, or a text only version depending on preference and ability.
