In recent times I saw, on SBS T.V., a well researched series titled THE AUSTRALIAN WARS. One Episdoe was entirely devoted to the so-called BLACK WARS in early 19th century VAN DIEMENS LAND. This increased my knowledge of that dark and brutal period of early colonial days to such an extent I was moved to compose this elegy as a belated homage to our first nations people.
