Late in 2016, Michael Kieran Harvey asked me if I might have a piece for piano and orchestra of ten minutes' duration. Although I hadn't, I thought I'd try my hand so as not to miss a potential performance of his presenting a new work of mine. The result is Dansatelle, a hybrid word contrived from 'dance' and 'bagatelle'. Those two words seemed to sum up the intention for the piece which is in one movement. It is a 'lightish' play on rhythmic patterns of twos and threes. A quieter, slower, more introspective idea provides contrast to the otherwise outgoing nature of the piece.
