’Pooranetere’ was listed in the mid 19th century as an Aboriginal word for Mt. Wellington in southern Tasmania. Space, elevation and mountain forms transformed by dramatic weather changes shape the musical ideas for the piece. The second piece is Blue Sky through still trees. On a clear winter’s morning at Hastings Bay, the gum trees stood straight and tall,
and their leaves, dark green and shining white in the sunlight, hung absolutely still against the pure blue of a cloudless sky.
