"From Lutruwita" was composed not so much as to convey a narrative or even conscious response to my island home - rather as a work by someone (me) from Lutruwita / Tasmania. I am a 5th generation Tasmanian of British Isles stock. This work is abstract - its language fashioned from years of response to this place's landscape and history, including its first nations peoples.
It is in three parts - Solennemente, Leggiere, Aria.
The very first five bars serve as a uniting element recurring in each part, slightly varied each time. Its solemn opening is relieved in part 2 with a quicker, lighter feel which leads to a more relaxed melodic 3rd part concluding softly and tenderly.
