In Love Stories, each autonomous poem deals with six different couple's relationships, varying greatly from each other, including youthful first love, to suspicions, hate even, and sustained deep love, "something warm and constant" as stated at the conclusion of the final poem, 'it must be love'. In that poem the natural scanning rhythm is in duple time. However, I use triple time, endeavouring to suggest a slow romantic waltz which, for me, was a residual hangover from the 'Phoenix Rise' waltz in 'Memento Mori' (a chamber opera in 5 scenes), near the very end of that work.
