This one movement work contrasts two basic ideas - one, moderately paced with alternating major and minor tonalities underpinned by chromatic harmonies: the other, light and quick paced, fluctuating between duo and triple rhythmic patternings. Once the 2nd idea enters, as if intervening, the two ideas alternate unpredictably in long or shorter versions with the dance-like idea finally concluding the piece with a bright flourish. I gave it an Italian title which trips nicely off the tongue and, consequently, better conveys the intention of the piece.
