In response to Dominic Flynn's invitation to compose a 10 minute work for a solo instrument, I chose the cello to be performed by James Anderson. I began to compose without a pre-determined plan except to aim to keep things moving (with a few contrasts) as much as possible. I struggled to reach a point of no return until, out of nowhere, it seemed an F minor melody emerged, to later return to conclude the piece.
