Nathan Stinton's compositions ask questions. Questions about the nature of belief, of history, and of the continuing importance of music - all through the medium of contemporary chamber and choral music. His works reference old music and new ideas. They showcase modern techniques and ancient texts.
The intersection and juxtaposition of these elements encourage new ways of thinking, and of hearing. These musical invitations have been performed locally and internationally in concert halls, in old churches, from the backs of trucks, and even as on-hold music. Collaborators have included the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra's Recorder Lift Off!, L'Ensemble de Musique Contemporaine du Conservatoire de Musique de Rimouski (Canada), the UTAS Experimental Music Ensemble, UTAS Conservatorium Vocal Ensemble, and the Hedberg Ensemble.
In recent years, Nathan has studied composition with various Tasmanian-based composers including Maria Grenfell and Michael Kieran Harvey.
